TERRIFIC TURNOUT!
More than 300 community members crowded the Crowne Plaza ballroom on February 11 to hear about the latest developments on the LA Waterfront.  The "official" project kick-off meeting came after years of meetings and planning to come up with consensus plans for both the Wilmington and San Pedro sides of the LA Waterfront.  The Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners approved the Wilmington Waterfront Project in June 2009 and the San Pedro Waterfront Project in September 2009.

Commission President Cindy Miscikowski and Commission Vice-President Jerilyn López Mendoza expressed their thanks to all of those in attendance.  Port Executive Director Geraldine Knatz presented the basic elements of the projects and progress to date.  She also addressed the financial aspects of the plans and the fact that new and creative funding sources were being researched.

Port Business Improvement District (PBID) executive director Steve Robbins gave a presentation on the efforts to introduce a rubber-tired trolley service to run between downtown, Ports O' Call and the World Cruise Center.  He also informed the crowd that four new vendor carts were purchased by the Port/PBID and these should be in use along the waterfront promenade in the coming months.

Port Senior Communications Director Arley Baker outlined the various outreach efforts in place for the LA Waterfront and then the meeting was opened to a question and answer session from the audience.  The meeting was a great success with lots of information shared in terms of how waterfront projects in Wilmington and San Pedro will be advanced over the next several years.
