Last year, more than 7,000 visitors attended the Cars & Stripes Forever! event
at the entrance to the Port's World Cruise Center. What better way to
kick-off the long Independence Day weekend than an evening of classic cars, live
music, good food and drinks and special shows at the larger-than-life dancing
waters fountain? This year's event - Friday, July 2 from 5 to
11pm - promises to be even more fun and draw even more people to the San Pedro
waterfront. The event is fun for the entire family and it also raises money
for local charities. Food and beverage sales in the main car display/band
area are supplied by local non-profits and all the proceeds go to these groups.
This year, tacos will be served up by the Port Police Foundation, hot dogs
and brats grilled by the Los Angeles Fire Department Historical Society, soft
drinks, water, and coffee and other refreshments provided by the Los Angeles Maritime Museum Foundation and
Clean San Pedro.
And the local connection doesn't stop there. Again this year,
local bands will play all
evening long on the Promenade and in the main car show area. Don't miss
The Topics, Hindsight, The Daddyos and Jamnesia!
Be sure to get a good spot at the fountain for the 8pm premiere of five new
toe-tapping rock and roll songs. Patriotic songs
will also be playing throughout the event to add to the festivities, and
visitors can
also stop and fill out "thank you" cards for the troops overseas.
Free parking is available at 1st St. and Harbor Blvd and at Ports O' Call.
A free shuttle will run between parking, downtown San Pedro and the event and
the Red Car will be running for free as well.

And be sure to check out the specials especially for Cars & Stripes Forever!
from local San Pedro businesses, including a great rate at the Crowne Plaza
