During the 1990's, local business leader and San Pedro native John Papadakis conceived a vision for the creation of a new San Pedro Waterfront “from the bridge to the breakwater.” To know John is to know a man of great passion who cares deeply about San Pedro and everyone who lives here. Below are key planning principles that John has long advocated for the waterfront.
1. Eliminate or relocate all industrial operations between the Vincent Thomas Bridge to the Cabrillo Beach Breakwater.
2. Establish a grand and broad European-style promenade that provides primary access to the water.
3. Create a waterfront in a grand architectural style that is both wonderfully attractive and highly functional.
4. Make a promenade continuous along the water’s edge, eliminating all obstacles from the Bridge to the Breakwater.
5. Build it on a statewide scale for the people of California…the true owners.
Says John with his unparalleled enthusiasm, “I encourage everyone to envision a harbor that underscores our fundamental right as Californians to enjoy our shorelines and embrace the wonders of an historic L.A. waterfront that will finally be connected and rightfully shared.”
