Wilmington Waterfront Park

On Saturday, June 4, 2011, more than 3,000 people gathered to officially open the Wilmington Waterfront Park.  The morning kicked off with a stroll in the park lead by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and the Banning High School marching band.

The formal program included comments by the Mayor, Councilwoman Hahn, Harbor Commission President Cindy Miscikowski, community advocate Ken Melendez and third-grader Celeste E. Hernandez Moreno.

 

 

 

This much-anticipated 30-acre open space project is located between C Street and Harry Bridges Boulevard and Lagoon Avenue and Figueroa Street and includes:

§  walking trails

§  water features

§  an adventure playground

§  plazas and public art

§  terraced spaces with a view of the Port from the highest level

§  a distinctive pedestrian bridge

 Wilmington Waterfront Project

The Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the 94-acre Wilmington Waterfront Project was approved by the Board of Harbor Commissioners on June 18, 2009.  Bounded by Lagoon Avenue, Broad Avenue, C Street and Slip 5 on the water, the Wilmington Waterfront Project includes:

§  Land bridge connecting Wilmington community to the waterfront

§  11 acres of green open space

§  Plazas and event spaces

§  Waterfront promenade

§  Floating docks

§  Water features

§  A 200-foot observation tower

§  Red Car Museum

§  Commercial and light industrial development for green technology businesses

§  Linkages to the San Pedro waterfront by California Trail and Red Car
